"The life history of humanity has proved nothing more clearly than
that crowded populations, if they would live in health and happiness,
must have space for air, for light, for exercise, for rest, and
for the enjoyment of that peaceful beauty of nature . . ."

Pathways
Survey Information
October 1st and 4th
Volunteers are needed to help
document conflict between traffic and pathway users (pedestrians, bicyclists,
skaters) along the Charles River.
- Wednesday, October 1st,
4:00-6:00 pm.
- Saturday, October 4th, 3:00-5:00
pm.
- River Street Bridge (Cambridge/Boston)
- North Beacon Street Bridge
(Watertown)
Volunteers
will monitor the intersections where the Dr. Paul Dudley White Pathway
crosses River Street and North Beacon Streetcounting pathway users
and cars while documenting the conflicts between them.
Videographers are also
needed to film the intersections. (Enthusiasm and a video camera
are all that's needed, although professionals and serious amateurs are
encouraged to step forward.)
This project is phase II of
a pathway documentation effort begun in June 2003, which has already drawn
the attention of the local media and the Executive Office of Environmental
Affairs. If interested, call or email Fritz Nelson (fn@thecharles.org at the CRC.
