CHARLES  RIVER  PARKLANDS  UPDATE

Conservancy Goes On Patrol

Von Tscharner and Trooper Burchfiel with bicycles alongside Charles RiverThanks to efforts by State Senator Steve Tolman and funding from the State Legislature, the State Police have the resources to patrol the Charles River Basin Parklands on foot and bike. This has led to improved public safety, in large part due to the efforts of Lieutenant Robert Ryan and his officers at the State Police Barracks on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.

As shown to the right, Trooper Kurt Burchfiel and Conservancy President Renata von Tscharner share ideas during a bike tour of the Greenough Boulevard, Hell's Half Acre and Herter Park areas along the Charles River.

As an assist to Conservancy efforts to improve Parkland security, Burchfiel took time during his regular patrol to point out various dangers to public safety. His long experience and keen interest in improving the Parklands are an important public resource.

A lack of visibility due to overgrown areas on both banks of the river denies use of the Parklands to the families and community members for whom they are intended. In response, the Conservancy is developing a volunteer program to help maintain the riverbanks. If you have an interest in supporting this effort, please call the CRC.

Charles River Parklands is published by The Charles River Conservancy, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of the Basin parklands of the Charles River.
