CHARLES RIVER PARKLANDS
UPDATE IN THIS ISSUE
Solstice Bridge LightingMany thanks to all of you who braved one of the coldest nights of the year to see the solstice bridge lighting on December 21st! Over 200 people ventured out to the Weeks Bridge for the stunning view, hot beverages and cookies, and a brief ceremony. CRC Board Member Paul Walker was our Master of Ceremonies, introducing a powerful line up including Ali Noorani, President of the Boston Greenspace Alliance, John Moot of the Friends of Riverbend Park, Chris Hardy, Lobbyist for Mass Audubon, and Renata von Tscharner, CRC President. You may have listened in on the WBUR Morning Edition interview, in which Bob Oakes discussed the need for parkland and bridge restoration with Renata von Tscharner. Inventing the Charles RiverThis richly illustrated comprehensive history of the Charles River Basin by Karl Haglund is moving swiftly towards publication. The MIT Press is completing the editorial process and beginning design work. Marketing efforts are well underway for the book's release in September later this year, and a conference is planned for October. Now, the Conservancy is launching a capital campaign to subsidize the cost of the book and make it accessible to the wide audience we want to reach. For more information on how to support this publishing effort, please call the CRC office staff or email: crc@thecharles.org. Charles River Parklands is published by The Charles River Conservancy, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of the Basin parklands of the Charles River.
