CHARLES RIVER PARKLANDS
UPDATE RiverSing 2005Thursday, September 22nd, the Charles River Conservancy and Revels will once again celebrate the first day of fall by inviting you and all of your friends to gather along the banks of the Charles for RiverSing 2005! As the sun sets and family and friends join in familiar song, the Larz Anderson Bridge will light up, becoming the third bridge across the Charles to be permanently illuminated. So gather your family, friends, and colleagues and join the many choral singers, musicians, and friends of the Parklands who are making RiverSing a fall tradition for all the citizens of Greater Boston. The official program runs from 6:30-7:30 PM. To read more about RiverSing 2005 and to find out how you can sponsor the event and bridge lighting, click on: RiverSing 2005. To receive an event program with song lyrics, e-mail RiverSing05@yahoo.com. Skatepark UpdateThanks to a recent $75,000 challenge grant from an anonymous foundation, we have now raised over three quarters of a million dollars toward the design and construction of this world class skatepark. Our fundraising efforts continue, as we reach for the $2.1 million dollar goal for this campaign! If you want to learn more about upcoming fundraising concerts, purchasing a custom Charles River skatepark board, or read recent articles about the skatepark click on: Charles River Skatepark. Swimming AdvocacyWater from the Charles River was ceremoniously poured into the Rhine River on August 16th, as over 1,000 swimmers joined together for the annual swim in Basel, Switzerland. Renata von Tscharner, president of the Charles River Conservancy, was joined by Dieter Scholer, president of the Basel-based, Friends of Massachusetts. Much can be learned from the successful public swimming that has taken place in this powerful river that runs through the heart of Basel. For a copy of the press release please click here. Conservancy VolunteersThis summer our volunteer coordinator, Evan Moss, brought 950 volunteers to the Charles River Parklands. Several youth education programs came out regularly throughout the summer to enjoy learning about urban ecology and river systems. As the fall approaches, the Conservancy is teaming up with local university and graduate students to improve the parklands. Through volunteering, these new students from MIT, Tufts, Emmanuel, and BU Law will be introduced to the wonderful resources of the river and parklands that are right in their new backyard. If you would like to schedule an event for your school, company, or organization, please contact our Conservancy Volunteer coordinator Evan Moss at elm@thecharles.org. CRC Job OpeningsDevelopment Coordinator/Director If you know somebody with great writing skills, a creative mind, solid office experience, willingness to work hard, and a passion for the Charles River parklands, ask them to go to our website for more information about the open positions.
