CHARLES RIVER PARKLANDS
UPDATE “Swimmable Charles"The Conservancy has been making a splash in the local press with its initiative to return swimming to the Charles River. To read the articles and to learn more about swimming in the Charles, please click here. If you have a personal swimming story send it to us at crc@thecharles.org. Conservancy Volunteers Making a DifferenceWe would like to thank the volunteers who came out to prune trees, including the Riverside Boat Club, Conservancy Volunteers, the Single Volunteers of Boston, and the tutors and students at the MATCH Charter School. We look forward to working with our Conservancy Volunteers and Y.A.V.A. at later dates this month. And remember, it’s not too early to schedule an event for this spring! If you would like to schedule an event for your school, company, or organization please contact our Conservancy Volunteer coordinator Evan Moss at elm@thecharles.org or the telephone number shown in the column to the left. Skatepark in the NewsOur wheels are rolling towards building a skatepark under the Zakim Bridge—the skatepark project was recently featured in The Beacon Hill Times, an article that includes interviews with local skateboarders and Conservancy President Renata von Tscharner. We would also like to thank Nancy Schon for her indefatigable support and draw attention to her letter to the editor, “How I came to support the skatepark”. To read these articles, click here. The CRC on CCTVIt’s not “Sex and the City”, but “Love and the River”: scenes of love and the Charles don’t have to be relegated to silver screen adaptations like “Love Story”. Tune in when Renata von Tscharner hosts her Charles River Parklands show on Wednesday, February 14th at 5.30 pm and the same night at 12:30 am on Channel 9 (Cambridge only). Visiting with Renata will be Cambridge City Counselor Craig Kelley, an avid bicyclist who has a ‘real life’ Charles love story: he met his wife on the banks of the Charles. CRC Hiring Stewardship/Press AssistantAny river lovers out there interested in advocating for, publicizing, and working on the banks of the Charles?
