Volunteer Recognition Event at Publick Theater

On Thursday, July 5th, the CRC will be giving out the 2007 Charles River Distinguished Service awards before the Publick Theatres season premier of "Misalliance" by George Bernard Shaw. The event will begin at 6:00PM with the award ceremony, followed by the performance at 7:30PM. The CRC invites volunteers and donors to join this celebration, but in order to be placed on the guest list for free entry, you must R.S.V.P. before July 1st with Evan Moss at elm@thecharles.org. For more information about Misalliance, please click here. Or to become a donor to the CRC, click here.

Skatepark Funding Challenge

A donor has announced a challenge grant of $50,000 if the CRC can get 100 new donors to contribute by September 30th. Even a $50 contribution counts towards that challenge – a great way for athletes and parents to help make this world-class skatepark happen. Checks can be sent to the Charles River Conservancy, at 1 Education Street, Cambridge, MA 02141. Please write skatepark challenge on your check. Or donate online at www.charlesriverskatepark.org.

New Basin

The CRC recently co-signed a group letter urging the state to prioritize their spending plan with regard to the New Charles River Basin parks and build the pedestrian bridges first. To see a copy of this letter, please click here.

CRC on TV

On Thursday, June 21st, Smoki Bacon will interview Renata von Tscharner about the Charles River Skatepark. Boston residents can tune in to BNN Channel 23 at 10:30AM.

On Wednesday, June 27th at 5:30PM, Renata von Tscharner will host State Representative Marty Walz on her CCTV show for Cambridge residents.

CRC in the Press

The CRC and the skatepark project were recently featured in the Back Bay Sun, Boston Now, Boston Globe, and Banker and Tradesman. In addition, WBUR interviewed skatepark supporter, Nancy Schon; skatepark designer, Zach Wormhoudt; and local Boston skateboarders and BMX bikers. To read these articles and others relating to the skatepark project please click here. To hear the full transcript from WBUR’s Morning Edition, please click here.

Charles River Swim Race

On Saturday, July 21st, the Charles River Swimming Club will host the One Mile Swim. It will be the first ever open water swim race on the Charles River. The course is a one mile loop off the Esplanade and the event is intended to raise awareness to return recreational swimming to the Charles. To register or for more info, please visit www.charlesriverswimmingclub.org.
