Dear Charles River Conservancy,
I am writing to show my support for the Charles River Conservancy Skatepark initiative.
This unique project offers the people of the Commonwealth an opportunity to not only support young people in their athletic endeavors, but enhance the quality of our parklands and greater Boston surroundings. Athletes of all ages have difficulty finding appropriate and accessible facilities in order to bike and skate. Cities are struggling to have the capacity to accommodate everyone's athletic interests. As a result of unavailable or unsafe community recreational facilities, today's youth are inactive and overweight. This skatepark will grant youth a venue for physical activity. Thus, the Charles River Conservancy skatepark will provide our children with a safe and legal place to pursue their biking and skating skills.
The community support is strong and widespread. Hundreds of enthusiastic contributors have already helped you reach half of your goal for the skatepark's capital campaign. Recently, a Boston Globe editorial honored the project in making Boston a greener city with more inviting opportunities of outdoor recreation. Local community members associated with the Boston Foundation, national skateboard athlete Tony Hawk, and the Boston Bruins are among those who have publicly supported the campaign. These donors agree that the skatepark initiative will promote the long-term health of our youth and provide many with a safe place to gather.
The Charles River Conservancy plays an instrumental role in the city of Boston and surrounding communities. The organization's commitment to providing stewardship and renewal of the Charles River Parklands is truly commendable. I wish you the best of luck in raising the appropriate resources for this skatepark and I will continue to support your campaign efforts.
Sincerely,
John F. Kerry
United States Senator
