Dr. Paul Dudley White Pathway

Public / Private Partnership results in repaved bike path along Charles River

Intersection at River Street and Soldier's Field RoadIf you have bicycled or in-line-skated on the southern shore of the Charles River along Nonatum Road, you have often experienced a bumpy ride. The path is overcome with roots that break out of the pavement, and significant holes that endanger walking, running or rolling. This is soon going to change. [read more]

Recommendations Released

Intersection at River Street and Soldier's Field RoadRunning through the narrow margin of Parklands between the Charles River and Soldiers Field Road, the Dr. Paul Dudley White Pathway crosses through one of Boston's worst intersections: River Street and Soldiers Field Road. Cyclists, pedestrians and others have long complained about the hazards of crossing here.

The newly released Charles River Pathways Report (37 pages in PDF format, August 2006) presents analysis and recommendations for the South Shore of the Dudley White pathway from the Museum of Science to Watertown Square.

The Dudley White Pathway Project Report (22 pages in PDF format, 2004) offers suggestions for pathway improvements ranging from revisions in timing of traffic lights to depressing Soldiers Field Road.

We are very grateful for the many cycling, running and pedestrian groups who assisted with collecting survey data used in developing this report. We also are grateful for the many people who read drafts of this report and offered comments.
